Netherland-America Foundation

Founded in 1921, the Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) is the leading bilateral foundation initiating and supporting high-impact exchange between the Netherlands and the United States, including the NAF-Fulbright Fellowships and programs in the arts, business, public policy and historic preservation. NAF activities provide donors and recipients with access to a broad network of educational, cultural and business organizations that exemplify Dutch and American excellence in a number of disciplines. VH Strategies is proud to be 2017 Champions for Children Silver Sponsor.

Bob sits on the organizing committee for the NAF’s annual Ambassadors’ Awards Dinner, which celebrates Dutch-American Heritage and Friendship in collaboration with Holland on the Hill.

Washington Ireland Program

The Washington Ireland Program (WIP) is a six-month program of personal and professional development that brings outstanding university students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to Washington, D.C. During the summer, they participate in work placements and leadership training. The program supports reconciliation and peace in Ireland and Northern Ireland and commences and concludes with service in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Bob has mentored and hosted students from the Program and continues to support the program in its efforts in DC. Bob also served as the member on the Board of WIP for five years.

Negotiation Strategies Institute

NSI was established in 2014 with the academic sponsorship of the Harvard Negotiation Project led by the Director Professor James Sebenius. NSI is working with leaders to enhance the capacity for effective and sophisticated negotiation practice and thinking; for that purpose NSI, partnered with renowned experts and practitioners in the field, and with those who accomplished groundbreaking achievements in the world’s most complex negotiations. Since its establishment NSI is developing a Network of leaders-negotiators in the Middle East, and established a one-of-its-kind Executive Program on Negotiation to equip leadership with high-level and sophisticated negotiation tools and skills.

VH Strategies serves as NSI’s U.S. headquarters, helping the founders with administrative and fundraising duties.

Children of Mine Youth Center

Children of Mine Youth Center is an after-school program based in Anacostia. It is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is entirely run by volunteers and provides a safe, clean and structured environment for children across the DC metropolitan area. Their goal is to provide at-risk children with the intellectual, nutritional, and emotional support needed to excel and become functional members of their community. VH Strategies has led the Christmas gift drive for Children of Mine for the past five years.

Bright Beginnings

Bright Beginnings is a child and family development center for homeless families with young children. Children flourish under its nationally accredited academic program, development delays are addressed early, and “graduates” enter kindergarten on par with their peers. In Bright Beginnings’ care, homeless children overcome anxiety and the emotional and behavioral problems caused by a lack of routine and consistency.

Nonviolent Peaceforce

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a nonpartisan unarmed peacekeeping organization with the goal of protecting civilians and reducing violence in areas affected by armed conflict through the practice of Unarmed Civilian Protection. NP holds Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and has been endorsed by nine Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including the Dalai Lama and former South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu. In 2016, Nonviolent Peaceforce was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

On a pro bono effort, VH Strategies has worked with NP’s U.S.-based 501c(3) organization on a successful education and advocacy campaign to engage the U.S. Congress during the FY2020 appropriations process, which ultimately led to the formal recognition of Unarmed Civilian Protection.

New Story Leadership

New Story Leadership is an American-based charity that annually selects young Israeli and Palestinian leaders to come to Washington, D.C. for a summer of intensive workshops, conferences, outstanding seminars, professional work experience, cultural immersion and team training. The program works to promote much needed dialogue, as well as to provide students with the skills they can use to implement change and become leaders.

Bob and his family have mentored and hosted a number of students. In addition to serving on the board, Bob has also spoken at New Story Leadership events and continues to serve as a role model and resource for many of these young people.

21st Century School Fund

21st Century School Fund is leading the effort to bring America’s public schools into the 21st century and to help ensure that all children attend healthy and educationally appropriate school facilities. It is dedicated to working with non-partisan organizations and individuals who support federal funding to help underserved public school districts modernize their facilities.
